OK, I found something that sucks worse than that. There's a post that just came up in the local paper's feed about my son's former daycare. Obviously, since he's 14, it's been awhile since he went there, and the director left soon after he did in a completely unrelated (and very hushed-up) situation. But ANYway...
The article in today's paper says that they have just had the playground "repadded" with m^lch, over 100 yards total were spread. In the mixture of wood chips, daycare employees found several thousand nails, some hinges, large surveying-stake-length pieces of wood sharpened at both ends, springs, and flattened metal cans.
The company that sold it to them says they tried to tell the director not to buy it, to buy a higher grade of chips, but they wouldn't. So, essentially, "what can you do, they insisted on it." WTF?! Uh, no. Just, use your head.
And, actually, who would want this in their yard or garden? Even if you have no pets or dogs....why would you want enough metal to set off every Geiger counter in the neighborhood? This company is clearly insane.
