Mid-year review

Yeah, so we have a weird fiscal year; our mid-year is November. Since this has been kind of a nutso fall, the boss is late doing reviews. Oh, well. I'm not really complaining, but I also don't mind checking in. I have a good boss.

Today's info:
  1. Yes, we really do have a reprieve on changing database platforms used for the catalog. Not that there's been an official announcement from anyone; NAAAHH, why do that?

  2. Yes, we really are going to start using Acquisitions to track our budget and spending. That means I have to figure out...well...what that means. Help...? Please?

  3. Yes, we really do have access to the second data dump, along with reports this time! So we know, for instance, that there are 136 of our patrons who somehow have been registered as another library's patron. We don't know who they are...which would be sorta helpful...but we can use our old platform to find the problems and fix them. The new database system sux.

  4. Yes, we (eventually) are going to reclassify our CDs so they actually match the current Dewey schedule...or at least one that has been published in the past quarter-century. But not immediately. Because I haven't finished the inventory, or the Dead Deweys, or the biographies.... And first I have to figure out the 780s, which give me a headache whenever I look at the schedule.

  5. Yes, we do need reorganize/restructure our Tech Serv activities so they are more efficient. Can I take care of that in the next few months too? Sure. Been thinkin' on it for awhile. Time to put it on paper.

    AND THE BIG NEWS...

  6. Techie Librarian is cutting back to half-time when school starts next fall. That's why I'm being tapped to do the Acquisitions stuff. And, I'm not supposed to tell anybody, so...SHHHH!
Fascinating.

I have a buttload more work to do, but I don't feel particularly stressed.

And it's clear she thinks I don't suck. That's good news.
