Radio silence

Weather: 17 degrees (feels like 1; that's 1 above 0 however, so I guess that's good, right?); snow flurries
Mood: OK
Listening to: Blowers
Where am I? Work

  1. I've had a sinus headache/cold since Sunday. I woke up at 9:30 Tuesday morning in the recliner in the living room when the phone rang. People from work were calling to ask where I was. I slept about 6 hours from 11 the night before until 9:30. I slept Tuesday night about 3 hours...in the recliner. Ugh. I think I've kicked it now. I hope. In any case, today is my Monday this week, and tomorrow's my Friday. Such a deal.
  2. Our computer at home got sick along with me. The Beast has spent about 10 hours the past two nights trying to cure it with Spybot and firewalls and so forth, not to mention the time he used at work looking up filenames on our C: drive that we didn't recognize. We think it may be functional now.
  3. My mom admitted herself to the hospital yesterday morning because she couldn't move. She could move enough to answer the phone when my sister called to ask why she wanted to go to the emergency room at 4:30. Whatever. Then she had the nerve to complain when they didn't get her insulin to her "on time." Marie is tearing her hair out. I'm back in the doldrums about the situation. Mom's deteriorating awfully fast, but at the same time, not fast enough (which sounds heartless, but it's that awful).
  4. I have 104 emails in my work emailbox this morning. See what happens when you sign up for a list-serve?
  5. I'm teaching a blogging class next Saturday and haven't really done ANYTHING to prep for it.
Here's an example of my life lately:
Yesterday, with no computer, no [fun] books to read (I'd finished them Tuesday), I spent the day inputting--into the non-Internet laptop--recipes for a cookbook for Katherine. At 3 I got myself together to go pick up Sparky from school to go get his passport updated. We had the required letter from Beast saying that he was onboard with that (you have to have both parents present, or a letter).

I got to school about 3:25, parked and waited. And waited. At 3:45, I went inside and looked around for him, finally asking at the office. They paged the bus driver: yep, Sparky took the bus home, in spite of repeated reminders Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

So I hied back to the house, picked up the kid, drove BACK into town to the post office (which only does passport stuff till 4:30). We arrived at 4:20 and stood in line. Once we arrived at the 'next available clerk' she had to page "Trish" to come from the back to process the paperwork. Five minutes later, Trish appeared and said that we needed both parents; I showed her the letter signed by Beast. She told me that the new rule is that letters have to be notarized. Which it's not. So, no dice.

I called the Beast from the parking lot. We decided that we want to get our new chair ordered. Sparky and I drove BACK home (20 minutes) to pick up the fabric swatches; he grabbed some homework to work on while we did paperwork at the furniture store. We drove another half hour BACK THROUGH our town to the next nearest town where the store is (it's pretty close to The Beast's workplace, which is one reason we went there). We pulled in at 5:30, just barely beating The Beast. The store closes at 5.
Have I mentioned that my head hurts?

Have I mentioned that I'd really like to purchase a new life?

Anyway, don't expect any pearls of wisdom for a few more days. I will be lurking, but probably not posting much.
