In the past 24 hours, the weirdest things have been happening:
- A book, a board book, with cardboard pages, whose description details a trip by a teddy bear to hunt for honey, was found to have the following subject headings:
Bible. O.T.--Criticism, interpretation, etc.--Congresses.
OK, one is right. What the hell? And this is in the national record!!
Teddy bears--Fiction.
People of God--Biblical teaching--Congresses.
Church--Biblical teaching--Congresses.
Kingdom of God--Biblical teaching--Congresses. - A book that, when checked in, brings up two records. They are attached the the right bib record (for all you non-catalogers, you'll have to trust me on the jargon), but they are separate items. Except, well, they only show up once. Only no, they still show up twice when checked in.
This is the point at which I asked for help, received a sensible reply from the Big G, tried her solution, couldn't figure it out...and went home. Because, clearly, it was time to go. - This morning, upon the arrival of books from other libraries, two techs (MEMTech and The Box Lady) buttonholed me about something odd that's been happening: items that have been sent from other libraries are generating emails for the patrons requesting them. That's good, except those emails are supposed to be sent when the items arrive here not when they are sent here. People are getting notified that the book (DVD, whatever) they requested is available for pickup, when it's still on it's way from Donutland Public Library. They merrily show up to collect their stuff, and it isn't here. We look stupid, and we can't tell when it will actually arrive because it shows up as already here.
Again, I draft an email to Big G (who is NOT big, but anyway).... She's probably deleting my emails on sight by now!
