Where am I? Home
No electricity this morning, hence no heat. The Wonderful Beast started a fire, so at least the living room wasn't quite as chilly as the rest of the house. I woke up at 1, having been in bed for a couple of hours at that point. My feet, in spite of being in their usual oh-so-sexy red footies, were still cold! In fact, as I lay (lied? No, lay.) there debating whether I'd ever get back to sleep, I decided they were colder! However, the lights were still working at that point, so we hadn't lost power yet.
I ended up on the futon, under a quilt plus a wool blanket for the duration of the night, after spending 20 frustrating minutes on a crossword with the suckiest clues ever.
The power came back on at 8. That means I'm the only one in the family who got a shower (our water pump is electric--if you live in the country you know that losing power entails a serious problem with all water-based daily needs]. Funniest moment: Sparky trying to get water out of the door of the fridge, reminding himself we had no power and saying he couldn't have any after all. The tap has some in it! And we have a case of bottled water!
Anyway. I have three calls to make:
1) "Hi Lynne. When is Marty having surgery? What can we do to help?"
2) "Hi Sally. How are you feeling? When did you get out of the hospital? What can we do to help?"
3) Hi Lisa. How's Ry feeling? When did he get out of the hospital? What can we do to help?"
The Beast has (at least) one: "What is this D, not to mention the C+, on Sparky's progress report? And why is it dated 1/21 when we just received it Saturday?"
My niece called to say she is waiting for traffic to settle down before she gets on the interstate to come here; it's icy this morning and people are driving off the road in...well...droves.
So I have a little extra time to myself after all today. And I found a pair of cozy blue knit socks with sparkly snowflakes on them, purchased...sometime in the past 3 months. They are nice and warm and have non-slip bottoms and sequins on the snowflakes. It's the small things that make life bearable, I think.
How 'bout that Jamie Foxx last night?
